Is your child on the Autism Spectrum?

At Step Up Academy of Learning, we recognize the need for family and student supports when it comes to managing the needs of an Autism diagnosis.

Our programs start with an initial meeting and move on to develop personalized programs, plans and goals for each student. This takes place in collaboration with a Teacher, a Clinical Supervisor (BCBA) and the family.

Ongoing assessments take place to ensure there is progress and continue to develop programming that is responsive to student needs.

Our methods for working with your child are led with research and evidence of success. We utilize various hands on tools, resources and manipulatives to ensure our students on the spectrum are receiving the best possible support they need to thrive.

What does Academic Learning mean or look like for a child with Autism in your program?

Academic Learning skills are connected to life skills. This means equipping children with the ability to read and comprehend, teaching them higher order thinking skills (making predictions, inference making, identifying the message in a reading, finding the main idea, etc.), building strong writing skills and teaching math concepts.

We first establish specific learning goals, and then build these skills based on traditional worksheet based work, hands on puzzles, interactive games and activities, as well as conversation and strategies catered to help the child understand concepts.

I want my child to build specific skills. What role can I play in building the learning plan?

When developing the learning plan, our parents play an important role in informing the process and co-developing learning goals. Your needs will be met, our approach is to make sure we develop a step by step plan to help your child reach these milestones.
